Praised by the New York Times as an artist of “supreme technical mastery,” dazzling and compelling through the refinement of his sound, Alberto Nosè is one of the most highly awarded Italian pianists of his generation. Today his career embraces international concert performance, recording, teaching, masterclasses and service on the juries of major piano competitions, alongside the development of new artistic and educational projects.
His international career began at an exceptionally early age. At eleven, he won First Prize at the Jugend für Mozart International Competition in Salzburg, a success that led to his first concert tour in Italy, Austria and France. In the years that followed, the experience of major international piano competitions became a defining element of his artistic development.
In 1998 he unanimously won the Premio Venezia; in 1999 he received Second Prize with Special Distinction at the Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition in Bolzano. In 2000 he was awarded Fifth Prize at the 14th Fryderyk Chopin International Piano Competition in Warsaw and First Prize at the Vendôme Prize in Paris. Further distinctions followed: First Prize at the Maj Lind International Piano Competition in Helsinki, Second Prize at the World Piano Competition in London in 2002, Second Prize at the Long-Thibaud Competition in Paris in 2004 and, in 2005, First Prize, Gold Medal and the Audience Prize at the Paloma O’Shea International Piano Competition in Santander. In subsequent years he also won First Prize at the Top of the World International Piano Competition in Tromsø, the Concert Artists Auditions in New York and the World Piano Masters in Monte Carlo.
These achievements launched an international concert career that has taken him throughout Europe, Asia and the Americas. He has performed at Carnegie Hall in New York; Wigmore Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall and the Royal Festival Hall in London; Southbank Centre; the Konzerthaus in Berlin; Théâtre du Châtelet and Salle Pleyel in Paris; the Mozarteum in Salzburg; Suntory Hall in Tokyo; Finlandia Hall in Helsinki; the Warsaw Philharmonic; Benaroya Hall in Seattle; the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid; Hong Kong City Hall; the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City; and the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. In Italy, he has appeared at major venues and institutions including Teatro La Fenice in Venice, the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome and the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, as well as at numerous festivals and concert series.
As a soloist, he has collaborated with orchestras including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Warsaw Philharmonic, New Japan Philharmonic, RTVE Symphony Orchestra in Madrid, Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia, Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife, Württembergisches Staatsorchester Stuttgart, Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Fondazione Arena di Verona Orchestra, Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto and Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento, working with conductors such as Manfred Honeck, Jesús López-Cobos, Hannu Lintu, Alain Lombard, James Judd, Enrique Mazzola, Ion Marin and Thomas Søndergård.
Alongside his solo career, he has always cultivated chamber music, collaborating with artists and ensembles including Rocco Filippini, the Ysaÿe Quartet and the Quartetto di Venezia. Since 2014 he has performed with pianist Valentina Fornari as the Amadeus Piano Duo, a partnership born from their respective solo careers and devoted to the repertoire for piano four hands and two pianos. The duo combines the major classical repertoire with transcriptions, rarities and interdisciplinary projects. Among its most significant ventures is Gustav Holst’s The Planets in the original version for two pianos: first realised as a recording project, it was later developed into a concert and educational production exploring connections between music, imagery and scientific storytelling.
In recent years, Nosè has continued to pursue major solo repertoire alongside these projects. In 2024 he returned to New York with an all-Chopin recital centred on the Four Ballades, complemented by Mazurkas and Nocturnes. In 2025, during the Jeune Chopin International Piano Competition, he also appeared in the opening concert alongside musicians including Martha Argerich, Mischa Maisky, Martín García García and Cédric Pescia, reflecting the continuity of a performing career that remains closely connected with his work as a teacher and jury member.
Recording has always played a central role in his artistic life. His debut album, produced for Piano – Le Magazine and devoted to works by Brahms, Chopin, Liszt and Prokofiev, received international distinctions including CHOC du Monde de la Musique and La Clef ResMusica. His recording of the Keyboard Sonatas by Johann Christian Bach, performed on the modern piano and released by Naxos, received extensive international radio exposure through broadcasters including Radio France, BBC Radio 3, Radio Netherlands, Radio New Zealand and ABC Classic FM. A subsequent album devoted to Schumann’s Symphonic Études and Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet, released by Harmonia Mundi, was awarded the Diapason d’Or. Other recording projects have received critical distinctions including the Coup de cœur Fnac.
In 2019 this experience led to the creation of Amadeus Sound Project, an independent record label founded by Alberto Nosè, who serves as its Artistic Director and Producer. The project grew out of his desire to approach recording as an integral part of interpretative research, bringing performance, artistic conception and production together within the same creative process.
The catalogue of Amadeus Sound Project deliberately reflects this openness. Alongside the classical repertoire and projects by the Amadeus Piano Duo, it includes productions devoted to contemporary pianistic languages, such as Yann Tiersen – Piano Works and Max Richter – Piano Works, as well as new solo and monographic projects. The label has also released The Art of Amadeus Piano Duo, featuring works by Gouvy, Schubert, Ravel and Kapustin, and an extensive recording series devoted to the piano music of Remo Vinciguerra, conceived in response to the composer’s own wish to see his repertoire collected, promoted and passed on to future generations.
Over the years, Amadeus Sound Project has evolved beyond the idea of a traditional record label into a creative platform where repertoire, interpretation, recording and production come together as part of a coherent artistic vision.
Alberto Nosè began his musical education at the “E. F. Dall’Abaco” Conservatory in Verona, where he graduated at the age of seventeen with highest honours and special distinction under the guidance of Laura Palmieri. From 1997 he continued his studies at the International Piano Academy “Incontri col Maestro” in Imola, working with Franco Scala, Boris Petrushansky and Leonid Margarius, and receiving the Piano Master diploma in 2005. During his formative years he also had the opportunity to deepen his approach to repertoire and interpretation through encounters and masterclasses with musicians including Maurizio Pollini, Murray Perahia, Andrzej Jasiński, Paul Badura-Skoda, Michel Béroff, Alexander Lonquich, Arie Vardi, Fou Ts’ong and Karl-Heinz Kämmerling.
Teaching has gradually become a fundamental part of his professional life. Invited to give masterclasses throughout Europe, the United States and Asia, he has taught as a guest at institutions including the Geneva Conservatory, the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and Mannes College of Music in New York. Since 2022 he has been Professor of Piano at the “E. F. Dall’Abaco” Conservatory in Verona, returning as a faculty member to the institution where his own musical education began.
He is also a founding member and teacher at Accademia Amadeus, where he has progressively concentrated an important part of his advanced teaching activity. There he works with Italian and international students, young pianists and professional musicians seeking intensive individual guidance in repertoire, technique, interpretation and preparation for a professional career.
This experience led to the creation of MTPM – Meet The Piano Master, his personal advanced piano training project, built around the individual needs of each pianist. Rather than following a standardised teaching model, MTPM offers a range of formats – from ongoing study programmes and intensive individual sessions to weekend courses and online training – with particular emphasis on technique, interpretation, style, sound, programme building and preparation for recitals, competitions, auditions, examinations and professional recordings. At its core is always the relationship between the pianist, the repertoire and the development of an individual artistic identity.
Alongside MTPM, he created MTPM Talks, a project devoted to reflection on music, the piano, interpretation and the profession of the musician. Rather than a series of technical lessons or tutorials, MTPM Talks draws on decades of experience accumulated through performance, competitions, teaching, masterclasses and jury work. It explores subjects such as the building of an interpretation, the relationship between talent and work, memory, artistic freedom, mental preparation, musical judgement and the psychological mechanisms of performance, placing at the centre the questions that musicians encounter throughout their professional lives.
His extensive experience of international competitions, first as a competitor and later as an established performer and teacher, has also led to regular invitations to serve as a jury member. He has sat on juries and selection panels for competitions throughout Europe, Asia and the Americas, including the Paderewski International Piano Competition, Ljubljana Festival International Piano Competition and Béla Bartók Piano Competition, among many others.
He has a particularly significant relationship with the Fryderyk Chopin International Piano Competition in Warsaw. After receiving Fifth Prize in 2000, he has been regularly involved in the competition’s preliminary selection process since 2010, returning to Warsaw in successive editions as a jury member. In 2025 he served on the preliminary jury alongside pianists including Piotr Paleczny, Nikolai Demidenko, Kevin Kenner, Ewa Pobłocka, Katarzyna Popowa-Zydroń, Krzysztof Jabłoński, Marc Laforêt, Ludmil Angelov and Wojciech Świtała.
Also in 2025, he served on the jury of the Jeune Chopin International Piano Competition, together with Martha Argerich, Martín García García, Cédric Pescia and Magdalena Hirsz. For Nosè, jury work represents a natural continuation of his own experience in competitions: the transition from being a young pianist evaluated by others to becoming a musician entrusted with listening to, assessing and supporting new generations of performers.
He is also co-founder of the Amadeus Competition, an international piano competition created together with Valentina Fornari within Accademia Amadeus, with the aim of providing young pianists with meaningful opportunities for artistic exchange, experience and growth.
Today Alberto Nosè’s work develops along several closely interconnected paths: concert performance, recording, advanced training, masterclasses, artistic production and international jury work. Rather than viewing these as separate activities, he sees them as different expressions of the same artistic journey.
At the centre remains the piano and his relationship with the repertoire: the search for an individual sound, knowledge of style and score, technical awareness and interpretative freedom. The experience gained on stage feeds directly into his work with students; the artistic research developed in concert continues in the recording studio; and the experience of major international competitions is transformed today into listening to and evaluating new generations of musicians.
For Alberto Nosè, music remains a living process in which experience, knowledge, artistic research and freedom continue to evolve through the encounter with repertoire, audiences and the musicians of tomorrow.
